New CLP-Regulations, version 2024/2865
Since January 2009, the CLP Regulation (Classification, Labeling and Packaging) has governed the classification and labeling of hazardous substances in the EU member states. Now, on November 20, 2024, the existing regulation was extended to version 2024/2865 and officially came into force on December 10.
As Thomas Wagner, Head of Corporate Material Compliance at KRAIBURG TPE, explains in this post, the changes affect two aspects: the reorganization of advertising and labelling regulations.

The reorganization of advertising regulations
With regard to the reorganization of advertising regulations, the following applies: in future, hazardous substances must be labeled as such in all product advertising materials. In addition to the signal word (i.e. “Warning!” or “Danger!” depending on the classification) and the respective pictogram, the associated hazard information must also be indicated.
The reorganization of the labelling regulations
This mainly concerns the adjustment of the font size (to at least “10”), the choice of a high-contrast background with white as the standard color and the selected spacing between the lines and letters within the lines.
The transitional period that applies to the required advertising regulations expires on July 1, 2026. By then, all advertising and marketing materials, including posters, flyers, information brochures and advertising website content, must be provided with the corresponding signal words, pictograms and hazard warnings.
Companies have more time to take measures to change their labeling. For example, adaptation to the new regulations does not have to be completed until January 1, 2027.
Implementation at KRAIBURG TPE
We will of course comply with all requirements of the CLP Regulation 2024/2865 and implement them in accordance with the specified deadlines, or even earlier if necessary. A central point is above all the increase in the standard font size.
While the changes affecting our advertising materials can be implemented relatively quickly within the aforementioned timeframe, there are still some important decisions to be made when it comes to changing the labeling. For example, we previously produced the labels prescribed for primary packaging in A6 format with translations of the content in up to five languages. However, the change in font size (in our case from “6” to “10”) will definitely require a redesign. We will of course inform our stakeholders about this in good time.
What our customers should bear in mind
What applies to us naturally also applies to our customers: Don't take the changeover lightly. The transition periods seem generous, especially in the case of labeling. But also bear in mind that existing formats can no longer be used for shipping from 2027. This makes it all the more important to make decisions now with regard to early sales or relabeling of existing stock.
